Awesome! I don't know if you can tell all that well from the picture on my blogger profile, but besides being a great women's role model, I like Frida for being unapologetic for her unibrow, just like me.
Wow, Sharanya, what a labour of love, I have so enjoyed looking through these pictures. Frida (and I love how we can refer to her by her first name and most everyone will know how we are talking about) was a remarkable woman...I haven't read the biography by Herrera Hayden, but I have seen the Salma Hayek movie and read a couple of lesser-known biographies. I also managed to catch the PBS special on her life from a couple of years ago...it was fascinating, she was truly a remarkable lady!
I have been fascinated with Frida since Salma Hayek had first portrayed her in the documfilm. She exuded effortless power, something which most women are afraid to have.
I like the cross between surrealism and realism in her art (by my definition at least) and its unapologetic oxymoron.
There is a very nice book that I would recommend to all Frida's fans to read. It's entitled "Kahlo" (A Bulfinch Press Book). It has a wonderful collection of Kahlo's paintings, photos and history.
So great to see photos from her life. Frida your spirit inspires. Here is a FRIDA poster from an international artist that I bought a couple years ago.. I must share the love.
Frida and Diego images here are amazing. Such theatre and performance from them both in such an effortless way. Frida Kahlo is an incredible figure in art as was Diego Rivera. Thank you for this post.
Invoking Frida is, simply, a tribute to Frida Kahlo, launched on July 6 2007, the day that would have been her 100th birthday.
The photographs here, collected and curated with love, were taken by many photographers, including: Nicholas Muray, Juan Guzmán, Leo Matiz, Manuel Alvarez Bravo and Lola Alvarez Bravo.
For more on Frida, it is recommended you read Hayden Herrera's marvellous biography of her. To know more about the beginnings of this collection, see this.
